The Heart & Soul of the High Country
For 27 years, Carolina Mountain Life Magazine has reflected the heartbeat of the High Country and neighboring communities with stories showcasing the people and places that make living in or visiting this area special. We welcome you to join us in celebrating this place, our people, and local businesses.

***A Note to CML Readers***
As the High Country and many other areas in western North Carolina recover from Hurricane Helene, one of the most destructive natural disasters in recent history, our fall season is being rewritten in real-time. While we collectively work to rebuild our communities, many of the popular seasonal events and entertainment options covered in the pages of our Autumn issue have had to be postponed or cancelled.
As you read through this issue, both in print and online, we hope you’ll enjoy learning more about the various festival organizers, businesses, entertainers, non-profit organizations, and everyday people who work so hard each year to make “fall in the High Country” such a special time for visitors and residents. Beyond the pages of CML, you can link to their website and Facebook pages to discover ways in which you can support them and our greater mountain communities during this difficult time.***
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the community of Banner Elk has demonstrated remarkable resilience. While the storm’s impact has forced the cancellation of this year’s beloved Woolly Worm Festival, the spirit of the festival is stronger than ever. To keep the tradition alive, check out Woolly Worm WebFest 2024 — a series of virtual events and scavenger hunts, offering new ways for festival fans to participate and support.
